I'd be very selective on the occasions that I use data collection tools as a teacher. If I were a student, and my teacher decided to use a data collection tool, I'd view that almost as a breach of trust between me and the teacher. I believe it is much more effective to simply ask how a student feels on a subject matter than having them fill out a survey. The scenario in a data collection survey would be appropriate (in my perspective) would be the scenario in which not all of your students are always in the classroom (i.e. virtual lessons). I was interested to find that a lot of the sentiments I had on certain topics were echoed in some of my classmates' blogs. For instance, I found numerous blogs sharing my opinion of the convenience of Google Docs over Microsoft Word. Besides that, it felt nice to know that a lot of my views were echoed by my classmates.
